FAQs

Nineteenth century oil paintings frequently explored romantic, realistic, and impressionistic movements, capturing rural life, landscapes, and portraits with careful attention to natural light and shadow.

Traditional pieces were typically created using linen or cotton canvas stretched over wooden frames, painted with ground pigments suspended in linseed or walnut oil, and housed in hand-carved wooden frames such as maple or gilt gesso.

Authentic period works often exhibit natural ageing characteristics, including canvas oxidisation, fine craquelure in the paint layer, hand-planed timber stretcher bars, and period-appropriate framing techniques.

Pairing historical artwork with contemporary minimal interiors creates a striking focal point, allowing the rich textures of the canvas and frame to add depth and narrative to neutral walls.

Preservation requires hanging paintings away from direct sunlight and heat sources, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and dusting the canvas and frame gently with a soft, dry brush.
