Description

Robert Kime would have understood and loved this carpet very much. The pastel blue, soft red flowers and pale yellow borders would have fitted right in with his aesthetic, as well as the obvious signs of repair, wear and great age. Cut down from a larger carpet and with much 19th century repair it is nonetheless a rare and desirable beauty.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Antique Caucasian carpets originate from the Caucasus region bridging Europe and Asia, celebrated for their bold geometric motifs, rich iconography, and distinct tribal aesthetics developed over centuries of nomadic weaving traditions.

These pieces are traditionally hand-knotted using handspun wool for the pile, warp, and weft, often dyed with natural vegetable colorants such as madder, indigo, and weld to achieve deep, lasting hues.

Authenticity is identified by examining the asymmetry of the weave, handspun wool characteristics, natural colour variations known as abrash, and the specific structural format typical of regional Caucasian workshops or nomadic tribes.

An antique tribal rug functions as a grounding focal point in contemporary spaces, pairing effectively with minimalist furniture, neutral palettes, and clean architectural lines to create a balanced contrast of textures.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming without rotary brushes, keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fade, and employing professional conservation cleaning when necessary.
