Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, encompassing various revival styles that showcased industrial manufacturing advancements alongside traditional craftsmanship.

Cabinetmakers frequently utilised native and exotic timbers such as mahogany, walnut, oak, and figured veneers like birdseye maple over secondary woods like pine or oak.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, handmade secondary timbers, original hardware or escutcheons, and natural ageing characteristics such as timber shrinkage and patina.

An antique chest provides functional storage while adding texture and warmth, serving as a striking focal point when contrasted against minimalist walls or neutral colour schemes.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, avoiding silicone-based polishes, and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
