A banjo barometer is a type of mercurial weather glass featuring a distinctive shape with a circular dial at the base and a long stem housing a thermometer, which became widely popular during the 19th century.

These instruments typically featured hand-carved solid wood cases such as oak, mahogany, or rosewood, enclosing glass barometer tubes, mercury reservoirs, brass bezels, and porcelain or enamel dials.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-correct hand carving, hand-written or porcelain dial script, original blown glass tubes containing mercury, and appropriate aging on the timber and brass components.

Display the piece as a focal point on a plain wall or within a traditional study, library, or hallway to highlight its architectural woodwork and historical scientific appeal.

Keep the instrument away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and damp environments. Dust the wooden case gently with a dry cloth and avoid moving the mercury tube without professional assistance.
