Description

Another lovely example of an Irish antique iron bed. A nicely shaped diamond sits centrally in the head and foot panels connected by reed strip ironwork. Very pretty bow shaped castings and clamps. Hand pain finished in a lovely soft, earthy pink tone, Little Greene’s Nether Red with the gentlest touch of dark wax to protect and give a soft sheen.

Fully restored to be sturdy, practical and beautiful. Whole frame cleaned and tested for durability. Shot blasted and primed prior to hand paint finish. All joints checked for secure fit.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Metal beds gained popularity during the Victorian era as a hygienic and durable alternative to wooden frames, largely due to advancements in industrial manufacturing and iron founding.

They are typically constructed from cast and wrought iron or brass components, featuring tubular frames, metal joints, and decorative castings secured with dovetail or wedge fixings.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hand-poured iron castings, minor surface irregularities from age, original slot-in side rail connections, and layered historical paint finishes rather than modern powder coating.

Pair the metal frame with neutral linen bedding, natural wood flooring, and minimalist bedside tables to balance the industrial heritage with soft, modern textures.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and inspect joints periodically. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners to preserve original painted or patinated finishes.
