Description

John Smith Atherton (1877-1943) was a painter in oil and watercolour, born in Todmorden. A regular exhibitor, he showed at the RA, RSA, RI, RWA, GI and in the provinces, specifically at the Yorkshire Union of Artists. He lived in Grassington and painted mostly around Wharfedale in Yorkshire.

The present painting "Snow" is a lovely example. A watercolour measuring 11"x 15" it is signed lower right and inscribed with the title "Snow" on the back. It is framed giving an overall size of 18"x 22".
