Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An original etching is an intaglio printmaking technique where an artist draws a design onto a metal plate covered with an acid-resistant wax ground. The plate is immersed in acid to bite lines into the exposed metal, which hold ink to create printed impressions on paper.

Early 20th-century etchings were typically produced using copper or zinc plates, hand-inked with carbon-based black or sepia inks, and pulled through a high-pressure rolling press onto heavy, cotton-rag handmade paper.

Authentic etchings show a distinct indented plate mark surrounding the image where the metal plate was pressed into the paper. Additionally, line work exhibits subtle variations in ink density, and original pieces are frequently pencil-signed by the artist in the lower margin.

Monochrome etchings pair well with modern interiors when framed in clean timber or slim dark frames. They function effectively as part of a curated gallery wall or placed in a narrow alcove to add historical depth and architectural interest.

Preserve original prints by mounting them with acid-free, archival-quality window mounts and UV-protective glass. Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight and areas subject to high humidity to prevent foxing and discolouration.
