Antique Silver J.W. Benson Trench Wristwatch, London 1915
A good early 20th century gentleman’s wristwatch by J.W. Benson of London, dating to 1915 and typical of the officer’s “trench watches” worn during the First World War.
This piece features a Swiss-made jewelled movement housed in a solid sterling silver case with screw-back and screw-front construction. The white enamel dial is signed J.W. Benson, London, with bold luminous Arabic numerals, blued skeleton hands, and a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock. The crystal has a slight blue tinge, a notable feature. Original dark brown leather strap with nickel buckle.
The inside case back is fully hallmarked for sterling silver, London 1915, with sponsor''s mark GS (George Stockwell). Matching case and movement numbers.
Offered in good original condition. The dial has some wear and faint hairlines, and the strap shows signs of age. Working very happily, though unserviced and not sold with a guarantee for the movement
