Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These French Empire style single beds date from 1930 and comprise a matching pair of off-white painted wooden bed frames with upholstered arched headboards and matching padded footboards. The painted wood features tapered posts and feet with acanthus leaves and floral carving detail, along with tulip-esque carvings across the top and bottom of the head and foot ends and along the siderails. The upholstery uses an off-white fabric with a geometric patterned design, complemented by studwork trim. The complete dimensions measure 105 cm high, 110 cm wide, and 202 cm deep, and the beds are suitable for a single size mattress measuring 100 cm by 190 cm inside the siderails or 110 cm by 190 cm on top of the rails. In a contemporary home, this pair functions as twin single beds in a guest bedroom or children's bedroom, or they can be used together as an occasional Empire size double bed with the help of a joiner. The frames include wood slats to support the mattresses, and the overall construction has been thoroughly checked to ensure a sturdy and good fit. The neutral off-white colour scheme integrates easily into traditional and transitional interior layouts, providing a classic French chateau aesthetic.

FAQs

French Empire style beds typically feature classical proportions, symmetry, and architectural motifs inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity, often incorporating padded or upholstered panels framed by carved moulding and decorative posts.

These bed frames are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as oak or beech, finished with paint or gilding, and upholstered using natural fibres like linen, silk damask, or cotton over traditional padding.

Authentic period pieces show signs of hand-carved details, traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, hand-forged iron side-rail connectors, and natural age-related wear on painted surfaces.

Positioning a pair of French single beds side-by-side in a guest room with neutral linens creates a symmetric arrangement, or they can be dressed with textured throws to complement classic interior schemes.

Clean upholstered areas regularly with a soft brush attachment on a low-suction vacuum cleaner, and wipe painted timber frames gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical sprays or abrasive polishes.
