Skippings Fine Arts has dated this piece to the 1880s.
The work, dating from the final years of the 19th Century, is a work by Rene Marie Leon Devillario (1874-1942).

Devillario studied with Jean-Paul Laurens, Tony Robert-Fleury and Jean-Jacques Henner. In Paris, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1902 onwards, obtaining an honourable mention in 1901 and a gold medal in 1925.

The drawing measures 39 x 55 cm at sight in the mount and is signed at the lower right. An old tear in the paper has been professionally conserved and remains faintly visible with light cockling. The overall size in a frame with conservation grade materials is 72 x 54 cm. A video of the artwork is available at request.
