A beautifully painted watercolour highlighting St Mary’s church at South Creake, Norfolk
 
Painted with fine attention to detail and good strong colours.
 
Presented within its original glazed gilt frame with arched gold coloured mount and title to the lower centre. Boarded verso to protect against damp.
 
Size to include frame: H53.1cm L72cm Image only: H36cm approx. L55.5cm approx.
 
Artist John Edward Bale was born at South Creake, Norfolk July 27th 1834.
 
He was the eldest son of farmer John Edward Bale (1803-1862) and his wife Mary Nee Branford 1813-1899.
 
In 1861 aged 26, John moved to 11 Bulstrode Street, Marylebone, London. He was an Ensign in the 1st West Indian Regiment. Whilst on tour, John embellished Surgeon Major Augustus Frederick Eliotts diary with calligraphy and watercolour titles. The diary is now kept at Duke Universi...
