Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency bowfront chest of drawers is characterized by its convex curved front face, introduced to soften the linear angles of traditional cabinetry. Typically crafted during the early 19th century, these pieces feature flame mahogany veneers, turned or reeded side pilasters, and graduated drawer layouts.

Cabinetmakers of this era utilised solid mahogany alongside high-grade flame mahogany veneers laid over secondary woods such as pine or oak. Construction techniques included hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, cockbeaded drawer edges, and solid brass drawer pulls or escutcheons.

Authentic period chests display evidence of hand-tooling, such as irregular hand-cut dovetails, original pine or oak drawer linings, and natural wood shrinkage along the backboards. Furthermore, the drawer bottoms usually feature wood grain running side-to-side rather than front-to-back.

A mahogany bowfront chest works well as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living space. Balancing the dark wood tones with light neutral walls, modern table lamps, or contemporary artwork creates an engaging contrast between historic craft and modern decor.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, cracking, or fading of the original finish.
