Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique tallboy, also known as a chest-on-chest, is a tall piece of bedroom storage furniture featuring two stacked chests of drawers. Originating in the eighteenth century, these pieces maximized vertical storage space while showcasing decorative timber veneers such as flame mahogany.

Early nineteenth-century tallboys were typically constructed from mahogany or pine carcasses faced with flame mahogany veneers. Interior drawer construction features hand-cut dovetail joints, solid oak or pine drawer linings, and turned brass knobs or brass escutcheon keyholes.

Look for signs of period craftsmanship, such as irregular dovetail joints, hand-sawn secondary timber on drawer undersides, and natural shrinkage along the timber grain. Authentic pieces usually divide into two distinct upper and lower sections to facilitate transport.

Position the tallboy as a focal anchor piece against a neutral or deep dark wall backdrop in a bedroom or dressing area. Balance its vertical scale with contemporary art prints or minimalist lighting nearby to blend period craftsmanship with modern design.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year following the timber grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent wood movement or veneer lifting.
