Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sculpted stone lions have been utilized since antiquity as symbols of strength, guardianship, and noble status. During the 19th century, grand European estates and Italian workshops frequently produced classical lion statuary inspired by Roman and Renaissance models to adorn formal gardens and entry gates.

High-status outdoor sculptures from this era were typically hand-carved from natural solid marble, limestone, or cast in lead and stone composition. Natural marble was favoured for its fine grain, density, and ability to hold intricate carving detail despite exposure to the elements.

Authentic period pieces display natural weathering, including delicate surface erosion, organic lichen growth, and softening of sharp hand-chiselled edges. Microscopic pitting and subtle variation in colour tones across the stone surface distinguish genuine aged marble from modern cast resin reproductions.

Large stone sculptures serve as structural anchors within garden design. They are traditionally positioned in pairs framing a formal driveway, at the foot of terrace steps, or positioned at the end of a gravel pathway to create an architectural focal point within green foliage.

Outdoor marble requires minimal intervention to preserve its natural aged patina. It should be cleaned gently using warm water and a soft bristle brush, avoiding harsh chemical detergents or high-pressure washers, while ensuring proper drainage around the base during freeze-thaw cycles to prevent frost damage.
