Meiji period bronze sculptures refer to metalwork art created in Japan between 1868 and 1912, a time when Japanese metalworkers achieved international acclaim for their mastery of lost-wax casting and detailed patination.

These pieces were typically crafted using traditional lost-wax casting methods, often utilising copper-alloy bronze combined with specialised chemical patination techniques to achieve deep, rich surface colours.

Authentic pieces generally display heavy weight, finely detailed hand-chased texturing, naturalistic proportions, and often bear traditional artist signatures or foundry marks on the base.

Place the sculpture as a focal point on a study desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece where its dark metallic patina and classic silhouette can contrast cleanly against contemporary architectural lines.

Preserve antique bronze by dusting it gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoiding chemical polishes or water, which can strip away the historical patina that gives the metal its value.
