Gilt Bronze Cased French Empire Coach Timepiece

A rare fine quality gilt bronze ormolu cased French Empire engine milled decorated coach timepiece or pendule d''alcove. Good looking, heavy gilt case with beautiful snake devouring itself suspension ring. The white enamel chapter ring dial with arabic numerals signed ''Breguet à Paris'' with blue steel hands and a silver guilloche engraved central plate. Later spring driven movement with platform escarpment. Abraham-Louis Breguet was born in Neuchâtel, spending his working life in Paris is regarded as perhaps the greatest horologist and clockmaker of all time, and was responsible for many innovations. Lovely looking, very decorative example. Case France, circa 1820.
