Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
It has been adapted slightly later, probably some time around the 1930-50’s. The original chest has been bound in leather with brass tacked studs around all the edges, and has had lovely military campaign handles added.
The condition is very good for its age, the leather has acquired a gorgeous colour tone and patina. There is just the right amount of surface wear to the leather here and there, with most of the wear seen on the outer front left edge.
