In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian furniture encompasses styles produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901), characterised by a revival of historicism, heavy proportions, and meticulous craftsmanship using dense hardwoods like mahogany and walnut.

Cabinet makers predominantly used solid mahogany, mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods like pine, and incorporated brass hardware, turned wooden knobs, and dovetailed drawer construction for structural integrity.

Authenticity is identified through hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-turned wooden knobs, original timber shrinkage cracks, aged patina on the wood surfaces, and secondary woods consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing methods.

Pair the rich wood tones with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary art pieces to create a balanced contrast between historical character and clean, modern aesthetics.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
