FAQs

Tang Dynasty tomb figures, known as mingqi, were created to accompany the deceased into the afterlife, reflecting the social status, wealth, and daily life of the period.

These figures were typically moulded from earthenware clay, sometimes fired with lead-fluxed glazes known as sancai, or painted with mineral pigments over a white slip base.

Authentication typically involves examining the clay body, pigment adherence, surface oxidisation, and employing scientific testing such as thermoluminescence (TL) analysis.

Placing the artefact on a minimalist plinth, open bookshelf, or console table allows its historical form and weathered surface texture to serve as a focal point.

Keep the sculpture in a stable environment away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity fluctuations, and abrasive cleaning agents to protect the delicate surface pigments.
