FAQs

Victorian credenzas gained popularity during the mid-to-late 19th century as status symbols in wealthy households, often used to display fine china and ornaments in formal dining rooms and drawing rooms.

Authentic period pieces typically feature a carcase of secondary softwoods veneered with highly figured burr walnut, accented by intricate floral marquetry, fire-gilded ormolu mounts, and glazed or mirrored doors.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails in the drawers, the quality of the timber veneers, natural ageing in the ormolu, and period-appropriate hand-cut screws or fixings.

Pairing a richly textured burr walnut cabinet with minimalist walls and contemporary lighting creates a striking focal point that balances historical character with clean, modern aesthetics.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer cracking, and apply microcrystalline wax periodically to nourish the surface without damaging the finish.
