Description

This is a lovely Persian rug. Finely knotted on a silk foundation with silk pile, it has a luxurious tactile quality. The design is extremely well drawn, centred by a lozenge anchor medallion with matching spandrels on an ivory field surrounded by rich flora and foliage. The magenta border repeats the theme with palmettes and other floral ornaments. The whole composition is exuberant yet elegant. Cherished through the generations, it has survived in very good condition with very good pile throughout, no stains or damage. The original selvages and ends are intact. This is a superb example of Kashan silk weaving in the early 20th century, a type which is becoming scarcer and scarcer.
