Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco sculpture emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by streamlined forms, stylized geometric proportions, and a focus on movement and modernism. Craftsmen often depicted exotic flora and fauna, utilizing clean lines and refined silhouettes.

Artisan sculptors from this era frequently combined polished hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or ebony with cast brass, bronze, or chrome accents to create striking textural contrast.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise hand-carving alongside heavy, solid brass or bronze fixings rather than lightweight modern alloys. Look for subtle makers marks, original patination on the metal components, and smooth joinery consistent with early-to-mid 20th-century craftsmanship.

Place the sculpture on a neutral mantelpiece, console table, or open bookshelf where its distinct profile can be viewed against a plain backdrop. Pairing warm wood tones with minimalist modern furnishings highlights the pieces sculptural geometry.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally to retain moisture. Clean brass elements using a soft cloth, taking care not to let metal polish touch or discolour the surrounding carved timber.
