We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A figural match striker and thermometer is a functional desk object popular in the 19th century, combining a sculpture with a striking surface for safety matches and a mercury or spirit thermometer.

These pieces were typically cast in bronze or brass using the lost-wax casting method, often featuring patinated finishes and applied details.

Authenticity is determined by examining the quality of the casting, natural patination, wear patterns on the striking surface, and construction methods consistent with the period.

They serve as textural display pieces on bookshelves, home office desks, or mantelpieces, adding historical character and curated detail to a room.

Bronze should be cleaned gently with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Harsh chemical cleaners and polishes should be avoided to preserve the original antique patina.
