Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian furniture spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, from 1714 to 1830. This era is renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, sophisticated proportions, and the transition from heavy walnut to imported mahogany as the primary timber.

Authentic pieces from this era typically feature dense tropical hardwoods such as Honduran or Cuban mahogany, often combined with secondary woods like oak or pine for drawer linings and carcases. Construction heavily relies on hand-cut dovetail joints and solid brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting construction markers, such as hand-cut dovetails on drawer boxes, subtle tool marks on secondary timbers, uniform shrinkage cracks, and original or period-appropriate brass handles and escutcheons.

Pairing historical timber pieces with minimalist contemporary decor creates a balanced, layered aesthetic. The rich grain of the wood adds warmth and texture when contrasted against neutral walls and clean, modern lines.

Maintain stable indoor humidity and temperature levels to prevent timber splitting or warping. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and periodically nourish the finish with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
