Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian mahogany chest on chest stands 188 cm high, 106.7 cm wide, and 54.6 cm deep. The piece is fashioned from dark brown mahogany with oak elements, comprising two short drawers over six graduated long drawers fitted with brass swan-neck drop loop handles and key escutcheons. The upper section displays a dentil cornice above a fluted frieze and fluted canted sides, while the lower section rests upon bracket feet. Practical for daily storage needs, this chest suits use in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway in a traditional home interior. The wood exhibits a deep polished finish with visible grain patterns across the drawer fronts and surfaces.

FAQs

A chest on chest, also known as a tallboy, is a piece of furniture consisting of two separate chests of drawers stacked vertically, originally designed in the eighteenth century to maximise vertical storage space.

During the George III period, cabinetmakers primarily constructed these pieces using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood, accented with cast brass handles.

Authentic George III examples feature hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak or pine drawer linings showing natural age, hand-cast brass hardware, and original bracket feet with a moulded cornice.

A mahogany tallboy functions well in a modern bedroom, hallway, or living area, serving as a vertical focal point alongside modern artwork and muted paint schemes.

Position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to protect the timber finish, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish along the grain once or twice annually.
