Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour Neoclassical marble sculptures were created primarily in Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries as souvenirs for wealthy European travellers. They replicate ancient Roman and Greek prototypes, focusing on mythological subjects, idealised human proportions, and flowing classical drapery.

These sculptures were carved from solid blocks of white natural stone, such as Carrara marble or alabaster, using hand chisels, rasps, and drills. Artists finished the surfaces through progressive sanding to achieve a smooth texture that mimicked human skin and fabric.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carved details, including deep undercutting in the hair and drapery folds, slight asymmetry from hand-tooling, natural surface patination, and subtle wear along exposed high points. Some examples feature maker marks or signatures incised near the base.

Classical marble sculptures are frequently set upon dark wooden sideboards, marble plinths, or within dedicated wall alcoves. The cool white stone provides texture and visual contrast when positioned against dark paint colours or natural timber furniture.

Marble should be dusted regularly using a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid acidic chemicals, vinegar, or abrasive cleaners, as stone is porous and susceptible to etching; dedicated pH-neutral stone cleaners should be used if washing is required.
