FAQs

Floral still life painting gained immense popularity during the 17th to 19th centuries, heavily influenced by Dutch masters. Artists focused on detailed botanical arrangements, often depicting symbolic flowers in classical urns against dramatic backgrounds.

These works typically utilised woven linen or cotton canvas stretched over wooden stretcher frames. Artists applied traditional oil paints composed of ground pigments suspended in linseed or walnut oil, finished with a protective varnish layer.

Authenticity is determined by examining canvas ageing, craquelure in the oil paint layer, period-appropriate stretcher bars, artist signatures, and pigment analysis under ultraviolet light to check for restorations.

Such paintings provide a focal point in contemporary spaces when paired with minimalist frames to bridge traditional subject matter with modern decor, or hung among gallery walls for a layered, eclectic aesthetic.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, extreme temperature fluctuations, and high humidity. Dust gently with a soft, dry brush and avoid liquid cleaners or touching the painted surface directly.
