Prometheus Antiques has dated this piece to the 1890s.
He carried on working and exhibiting in this area and also has pictures in important collections including the National Maritime Museum and Scarborough Museum. His artistic focus was on the sea and fishing so this work is very unusual for him. The painting has been cleaned and has had some minor professional touching in, it is in excellent condition. The work is in the original frame which is Aesthetic Movement in tone with the use of black and gilt, it is in good untouched condition with some minor losses that have been coloured. The whole is an interesting and evocative work that is ready to hang.
