Description

Fred Mayor 1865-1916.Coastal and landscape painter in watercolour.He was born at Winksley,near Ripon and was educated at St Edmund’s Canterbury.Studied painting at the RCA and for six months at the Academie Julian,Paris.Influenced by both Frank Brangwyn , with whom he shared a studio,and later by Edward Stott.He travelled about,visiting Morocco in the late 1890s.He moved to Staithes,Yorkshire in 1899 and became a founder member of the Staithes Group.He lived in France 1902-09.He then moved to Whitchurch,Buckinghamshire until 1912 when he moved to London..Exhibited with the NEAC and also at the IS,of which he became a member in 1925.
