Description:?Owing to its decorative shape and use of construction materials (specificall
...y the hinges), we believe this it is most likely of continental European provenance. This lovely vanity unit retains its original two elegantly shaped hinged bevel-edge mirrors, comprising one narrow and one wide mirror. The mirror angles can be adjusted to suit the user. The mirrors can be removed for safe transport or access in the house and up the stairs. The mirrors are bordered in a figured walnut banded frame. On the left-hand side is a pedestal cupboard with a hinged door, retaining its original brass handle and ball-closure door mechanism. Inside the single pedestal is a removable shelf. On the right-hand side is a lower table top, with an open cabinet below, comprising its two original sliding glass doors. The vanity unit sits on its original moulded Art Deco bracket feet and retains its original backboards. The walnut dressing table is not too deep; so ideal for smaller rooms or where good access is required within its vicinity.
Dimensions:
External Height (Including Mirror) = 170.5cm / 67” / 5ft 7”
External Width = 103cm / 40½” / 3ft 4½”
External Depth = 31cm / 12¼”
Condition Report:
The shaped mirrors in good original condition, with minor foxing visible to some parts of the mirrors (see photo). “Foxing” is a term used to describe silvering in antique mirrors that has deteriorated and turned misty, or appears to have tarnished in areas. Light “foxing” serves to demonstrate the pleasing patina of age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The Art Deco dressing table, has been cleaned and then French polished by hand to a professional standard, therefore the finish, colour and patination is of an excellent standard. The pedestal door retains its original brass door handles and original ball closure mechanism. The glass sliding doors are in good original working condition. The Deco vanity unit sits on its original bracket feet and retains its original back-boards. This dressing table is solid in joint and ready to use.
