Description

If you would like this sofa upholstered please click yes in the upholstery drop down menu. This would require 10 metres of material or 12m if you add seat cushions. You can supply your own material or please get in touch and we will send you the list of fabric companies we work with.

All my armchairs and sofas have been fully restored, springs, legs, padding etc so these will stand the test of time even if used everyday.

This is a very elegant c.1900 English country house sofa. The curved back and the scroll arms give this is a very stylish classic design that will sit well in a large number of homes. The bun feet conceal bakelite casters and are totally original. The sofa is very comfy and has a generous seat. We can always build up the seat height or add seat cushions if you would like it raising up.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The English country house style prioritises deep comfort, relaxed elegance, and traditional craftsmanship, often featuring generous proportions and rolled arms designed for everyday living.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-tied coil spring systems, horsehair stuffing, hessian webbing, and sturdy beech or pine internal frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the internal webbing, traditional hand-stitched edging, timber wear patterns, and traditional joinery methods hidden beneath the upholstery.

Pair the piece with neutral textured walls, modern lighting, and contrasting scatter cushions to bridge historical charm with modern living spaces.

Preservation requires regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and consulting a specialist conservator for deep cleaning.
