A wonderfully charming oil painting dog portrait depicting the head and shoulders of a terrier. The dog is beautifully observed and drawn in a technique that is bold using strong colours and broad, quick brushstrokes. The piece is in excellent untouched condition and is signed to the lower right and dated 1940. Miss M E Hankinson is little known but did exhibit in Birmingham in 1927 and lived in Manchester. The work is framed in the original oak frame with a good colour and patina.
