FAQs

Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910), often drew inspiration from earlier periods such as Sheraton and Chippendale, featuring lighter proportions, delicate inlay work, and refined craftsmanship.

Cabinetmakers of this era frequently utilised dense imported timbers like mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood for veneers and crossbanding, supported by sturdy secondary woods such as oak or pine for drawer linings and internal frames.

Authentic items typically display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, period-appropriate brass hardware, uniform timber ageing, and subtle maker marks or stamps within the drawer interiors.

Such foundational wood pieces anchor modern rooms by adding textural warmth and historical contrast, pairing effectively with minimalist walls, neutral palettes, and streamlined contemporary furnishings.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the wood surface.
