Description

A George III oak chest of drawers c1800 of small proportions, with four graduated drawers, standing on bracket feet. This chest of drawers is simple in design with a subtle moulded detail to the drawers fronts and the top, and has a lovely warm colour.

Condition: The chest is in good condition with some minor surface wear and marks in accordance with age and use, the most obvious of which is an ink stain to the top. The handles are not original but are in keeping. There are some old woodworm holes in the backboards which does not appear to be active, but we have treated it against woodworm as a precaution.

Mainland UK delivery (excluding the Scottish highlands) is included in the price - if you would like a quote for delivery elsewhere, or if you would like to collect the item yourself, please get in touch. Delivery of furniture usually takes between 7 and 21 days from order, though can sometimes take longer. If you need an item by a certain date please speak to us prior to ordering and we’ll try to help.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of King George I through George IV (1714 to 1830), characterised by classical proportions, architectural symmetry, and a transition from sturdy oak to refined mahogany and walnut as the dominant timbers.

Authentic period chests were constructed using solid timber frameworks, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, and panelled backs, typically fastened with handmade wrought iron or brass fixings.

Authenticity is verified through examining construction methods, such as irregular hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage lines, old secondary woods like pine or oak used for drawer linings, and natural patination accumulated over centuries.

An antique wooden chest provides textural contrast in modern spaces when paired with minimalist surroundings, functioning effectively as bedside storage, a hallway focal point, or a living room console.

Maintain timber furniture by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent splitting, and periodically nourish the wood with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
