An exquisite and very large Caucasian Karachopf Kazak rug with very good natural dyes including a particularly vivid madder ground. Finely knotted with fabulous, almost translucent wool, the piece is unusual for both its large size and the inclusion of 2 headed animal figures and Fachralo style shields. A great piece of rare quality offered in full pile with its original end and side finishes. It has just one or two very small old repairs of high quality and has been deep cleaned and now shimmers. This one should appeal to the cognisor collector. Circa 1870.
