Gilt and Gesso has dated this piece to the 1860s.

The French bateau lit is typically 2nd half of the 19th century, known often as the 2nd Empire. A well constructed, fine quality walnut sleigh style bed to accommodate a small double mattress, no mattress available, this sale is to include head and foot boards with 2 sides and 4 connecting bolts.

An elegant bateau lit with rolled top rail to both end boards and with its original castors to allow ease of movement.
The bateau lit is designed to sit against a wall, hence 1 leading edge side is more decorative than the other, sometimes known as French day beds.
