FAQs

A mid-century watercolour painting is an artwork created using water-soluble pigments on paper during the middle decades of the 20th century, often capturing landscapes, townscapes, or architectural subjects with fluid brushwork.

These works typically utilise watercolour pigments, ink, or gouache applied to heavy-weight rag paper or watercolour paper, sometimes mounted on card and housed behind protective glass.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit genuine paper ageing, visible brush strokes, plate marks where applicable, artist signatures in pencil or ink, and backboards consistent with mid-century framing methods rather than modern digital reproduction dots.

Pair traditional paintings with simple wooden or gilt frames and hang them on neutral walls to create a focal point that bridges classic heritage charm with contemporary minimalism.

Preserve watercolour art by keeping it out of direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, and using acid-free framing materials with UV-protective glass.
