Superb French Art Deco silvered bronze ‘Hirondelle’ (Swallow) sculpture by André Vincent Becquerel (1893-1981). Black marble base. Marked ‘A Becquerel’ and ‘Susse Frères Edit. RS Paris" on the base and also marked ‘BRONZE’ and signed on the stem connecting the swallow to the base. The name plate is missing from the base. 30cm tall (incl. base) x 14cm wide, base 11cm x 11cm, weight. 1.8kg.

Lovely condition.

Becquerel was a French ‘sculptor animalier’ who specialised in animal (particularly panthers and jaguars) and bird subjects. Between 1914 and 1922 he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member.
