FAQs

Chests of drawers evolved from simple storage chests during the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, becoming a staple furniture form in European domestic interiors for storing textiles and clothing.

Traditional pieces were constructed using solid timber such as oak, employing traditional joinery techniques like dovetailing for drawers and mortise and tenon frames, complemented by cast brass or iron hardware.

Authentication relies on examining hand-cut dovetails, tool marks, timber shrinkage patterns, natural oxidisation of the wood, and period-appropriate fixings and construction methods rather than modern machine-made indicators.

Pair the tactile wooden texture with minimalist contemporary decor, clean-lined upholstery, and neutral walls to create a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct heat sources and sunlight, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood without sealing it.
