193 X 310cm Antique Veramin Carpet

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: James Cohen Antique Carpets

Veramin weavings are mostly characterised by being stiff, late and dull. I almost never buy them because they are so boring. However, every now and then one pops up which is an absolute delight, and here it is. This beautiful Veramin is everything the vast majority are not. It seems to exude light despite being navy ground and that is because of the exceptionally well patinated wool and also the superb dyes which are deep and rich. As you can also see, the design is delightfully asymmetrical, with the zig-zagging vines along the sides and the diminishing number of in fillers as you descend the field. The rug is lively, vivacious and very attractive. Exactly what a good rug should be, inventive and interesting to look at. Showing heavy wear in places but still in one piece with no holes so could be used ''as is'' although I am seriously considering sending it away for a professional refurb. This will add a zero to the end price so available unrestored for now at a knock down price.
