Otto Vautier the Elder: (Born Germany 1863 died – Switzerland 1919). An abstract portrait and figure painter, best known for his lovely paintings of semi-nude women.
Otto Vautier is a virtuoso of all techniques, from oil to pastels, from pencil to charcoal and watercolour. Master of light, but above all a painter of intimacy, the diffuse sensuality of his models arouses reverie.
A man of great beauty and distinction, a Baudelairean dandy, the son of a very famous painter, Otto Vautier loved women and he loved painting them. He loved Geneva, where he chose to live, and which he illustrated in large allegorical panels, one of which is entitled ''the triumph of beauty'', where the woman has the capital role of indicating the way of arts at the City of Calvin.
Under the influence of his painter friend Ernest Biéler, he also became a member of the ''École de Savičse'', a loose grouping of painters who had settled or worked temporarily in the small Valais village.
