Rams Head Antiques has dated this piece to the 1900s.
During the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910), the genre gained further importance as one of the three subjects included in the official proficiency examination for court painters. Yi Am, a descendant of the Joseon royal family, enjoyed great success as a painter not only in Korea, but also in Japan, where his images were appreciated and studied. He specialized in animal painting, and had a particular interest in dogs, as seen in this work.
This print from the late 19th / early 20th Century appears to be on linen and has red stamps to the right had side. Presented in a later deep brass frame with bamboo mount which suits it well, it is in excellent condition and measures 57 cms by 50 cms by 5 cms deep.
