This particular piece, one of his notable works, is a still life featuring cheese and walnuts, which showcases his skill in capturing the textures and colours of everyday objects.
Dambourgez was known for his detailed and realistic still life paintings, often capturing everyday objects with great precision. His paintings often provide a glimpse into the daily life of the Parisian bourgeoisie at the end of the 19th century.
According to the Revue des beaux-arts, his style in painting evolved from realism to naturalism, then became "frankly impressionist" from 1894 onwards. The painter left Paris in 1896 to spend time in Spain, Italy and Morocco. He became a member of the Société des artistes Français from 1883. From 1893, he participated in the Salon de la Société Nationale des beaux-arts, the Salon d'automne (1904), the Salon des indépendants (1905, 1906) and the Salon du Champ-de-Mars. He received an honorary distinction in 1888 and an honourable mention in 1891.
