Rare Japanese Meiji (early 20thC) large bronze vase by Kanaya Gorôsaburô XI decorated with dragons, clouds and waves. Seal on the base for Kanaya Gorôsaburô XI (1871-1928). Measures 34cm high x 21cm (max) in diameter, weight 6.2kg.
 
Excellent condition.
 
A family of bronze caster artists in Kyoto, dating back to the 16th century to the present day. It was only from the 9th generation that the name of Kanaya was added to Gorosaburo. In the 20th century they were renowned for working in yellow bronze with a rich brown patina. Particularly prolific, Gorosaburo is present in several international museums including the National Victoria of Melbourne and the Rijskmuséeum (Amsterdam).
