Antique Tekke Turkmen 'Kizil' chuval with a traditional banded design in mixed techniques.
Circa 1880.
They were usually woven in pairs. 'kizil' translates to red; these chuval are associated with weddings and formed part of the brides dowry, they were prized possessions and passed down through the

family.
This example is of classic design with very fine decorated bands in pile and flatweave on a madder red ground. These are considered to be the finest knotting of all Tekke weavings. Note the interesting decoration in the top left hand corner.
The chuval is in excellent condition with light even wear, there are some small historic repairs. This example is complete with its original plain ivory back.
