A fine 19th century English school painting , oil on canvas of the Duke of Wellington Arthur Wellesley

full-length, standing on the battlefield. Housed in a gilt frame. This is a very good likeness to the sitter and obviously painted by a competent hand.

The size of the painting is 54.3 x 35.6cm whilst overall the size is 48 x 68 cm

In very good condition, having been relined/restored in the past.

some light age related craquelure present as to be expected. The painting has recently been cleaned.

Duke of Wellington , Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852),

Field Marshal Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS was an Anglo-Irish military officer and statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures in Britain during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, serving twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

The titles of Duke of Wellington and Marquess Douro were bestowed upon Arthur Wellesley, 1st Marquess of Wellington, on 3 May 1814 after he returned home a hero following Napoleon's abdication. He fought some sixty battles during his military career.
