We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The scroll arm upholstered settee gained prominence during the Victorian era, evolving from earlier Regency designs into plush, comfortable seating centrepieces for formal drawing rooms.

Authentic period settees typically feature a solid hardwood frame, traditional coil spring suspension, horsehair or wool stuffing, and hand-applied velvet upholstery secured with piping or brass tacks.

Authenticity is determined by examining the timber frame construction, hand-tied springs, natural stuffing materials, hand-forged fixings, and signs of genuine wear and oxidisation on the wooden feet and castors.

A vibrant velvet sofa serves as a strong focal point and can be balanced in a contemporary setting by pairing it with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and complementary textural accents such as brass or dark wood.

Preservation requires regular gentle brushing with a soft-bristle brush to prevent pile crushing, keeping the fabric out of direct sunlight to avoid colour fading, and utilizing professional dry-cleaning services for deep maintenance.
