Josiah Wood Whympher RI 1813-1903.Watercolour landscape painter and engraver born Ipswich.Studied under Collingwood Smith.ARI 1854,RI 1857.Father of Charles Whymper Exhibited principally at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour where he showed 102 works.
‘Figures and Cattle on a Riverbank in front of an Abbey’ signed watercolour,dated 1857.Original giltwood frame in a distressed but acceptable condition lacking original glass .This large and impressive watercolour is of exhibition quality;image size of image 51.5x73 cms,framed size 80x106 cms.
