A still life oil painting is an artwork created using pigment suspended in oil, depicting inanimate subject matter such as flowers, fruit, or household objects.

Traditional oil paintings are created using artist-grade oil paints applied to a primed stretched canvas, wooden panel, or board, often housed in a carved wooden frame.

Authentication involves examining the canvas weave, inspecting the drying cracks or craquelure in the oil paint layer, checking for artist signatures, and verifying framing methods appropriate to the era.

Original oil paintings add texture and historical depth to contemporary spaces; they can be hung singly as a focal point or integrated into a gallery wall using traditional brass picture lights.

Oil paintings should be kept away from direct sunlight and high humidity, dusting the surface gently with a soft dry brush, while professional cleaning should be left to conservators.
