Wigs on the Green has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The portrait is signed bottom left - C Grant del. Charles Grant was actively painting between 1825 and 1845. He exhibited at the Royal Academy before moving to India where he changed career and became a publisher.
In clean condition, the portrait is presented in a period bird's eye maple veneer frame with a gilt slip (minor loss to a small area of the slip).
