FAQs

A 19th-century character portrait focuses on depicting the distinct personality and likeness of an individual, often utilising a combination of watercolour washes and fine pencil work on paper.

These artworks were typically created using high-rag content paper, graphite pencils, and watercolour pigments, often housed in burr wood or gilt frames.

Authenticity is assessed through paper ageing characteristics, watermark analysis, pigment composition, and the presence of period framing techniques.

Pairing historical artwork with contemporary minimalist decor creates a striking focal point, allowing the traditional craftsmanship to stand out against neutral walls.

Watercolours must be protected from direct sunlight to prevent fading, kept in stable humidity conditions, and framed using acid-free materials behind UV-filtering glass.
